Time and Motion

For our final project, we were asked to incorporate time and motion into one piece. My initial idea was to have college students dip their feet into paint and walk in any direction they choose. Then my idea changed into having the kids in my neighborhood do it. I thought more into it and I realized that those people have no personal connection to me or my life. The art I make is personal and meaningful to me, so I wouldn't want to deviate from that just for one project. So I decided to have the people (and dog) that effected my life use their feet. I am the orange foot prints, my mother is yellow, my father is red, my dog is purple and my friends Kinsey and Morgan are green and blue. There is no significance to anyone's color except it is either their favorite color, or they just chose it. While doing this project, there are many things that occurred that made the colors and pathways interesting. The colors that my parents chose are red and yellow, which make orange, which is my color. I am the only one that started from the right corner and went to the left. Finally, my dog is no longer alive and she is the only one that has a short path. I was very skeptical to my idea at first because I was afraid that it would seem childish and not very "artsy". But after finishing it, I realize that art doesn't have to be perfect or extravagant. It just has to mean something and evoke emotion.

Artistic Inspiration

The only reason I am writing this in my blog is because I will probably forget about it when its time to actually work on it.

I have two final projects due in the next three weeks. One is for 3D Design, and the other is for Photo 2.

My idea for 3D is to do casts of facial features of family and friends. The concept is that everyone is defined by the way they look, but if you take each facial feature out of context, the face really is a work of art. I would make them with some sort of rubber mold, and then cast them with plaster.

For Photo 2, my idea is slightly similar. At first I was doing portraits of the kids I teach at Williams Field High School. I would tell them to show me who they are without actually saying anything. But then I thought deeper. The mouth is used for many things: talking, eating, singing, kissing, etc. Everyone does the same things with their mouths, but everyone's mouths are so different. Some people have big lips, some people have braces. So I am going to photograph mouths. (kinda weird, i know) It will be up to the model as to whether or not they want to smile, frown, stick out their tongue, anything.

Initial idea for Figure/Ground assignment

My initial idea is to incorporate zebra stripes and tiger stripes into one main design. My color choices would probably not necessarily be the same as in the pictures, but maybe the most popular colors of African flags in order to symbolize where these animals live.
